Reps Question Accountant-General Over Fake Agency Scandal

The House of Representatives ad hoc committee, led by Yusuf Gagdi, is investigating the establishment and operations of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), which the Federal Government has labeled as non-existent. The committee is set to question the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, regarding how the PFIPC secured official office space in the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja and received a budgetary allocation exceeding N1.32bn in the 2026 Appropriation Act.

The investigation has gained public attention due to allegations that the PFIPC operated without legal recognition, raising concerns about public financial management. Ogunjimi is expected to clarify the processes that allowed the PFIPC to obtain a government budget code.

The committee has previously heard testimonies from various officials, including the Head of the Civil Service, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, and the Director of Banking Services at the Central Bank of Nigeria, Abdullahi Hamisu. The probe intensified following the arrest of Mr Adeyemi Adeniyi, who claimed to be the PFIPC's Director-General and allegedly paid N400m to facilitate his appointment, a claim denied by the Presidency and Mr Gbajabiamila.
