Reps Investigate Renewable Energy Use in Nigeria

The House of Representatives, led by Speaker Tajudeen Abba, is conducting an investigative hearing to assess the utilization of renewable energy across federal ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in Nigeria. This hearing examines the implementation of green energy projects funded by foreign grants since 2015.

Speaker Abba emphasized the importance of transitioning to cleaner energy sources in response to global environmental concerns, particularly regarding carbon emissions from fossil fuels. He urged MDAs and stakeholders to actively participate in the hearing, which aims to enhance system efficiency and uphold institutional integrity.

Moham Idri, representing the Ministry of Information, expressed support for the initiative, highlighting the need for public awareness in the renewable energy sector. Afam Victor Ogen, the chairman of the committee on renewable energy, outlined the committee's mandate to address ongoing challenges in electricity access and the high costs of energy for businesses and households, which are critical for socio-economic development in Nigeria.
