Nigerian House of Representatives Seeks Tinubu's Intervention Over Bandit Attacks in Gombe Communities

The House of Representatives has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently boost security presence in Gombe State, Nigeria, in response to a series of deadly bandit attacks in various communities. The motion, raised by Chief Whip Bello Kumo during a plenary session, highlighted recent attacks in Garin Galadima, Pindiga, Garin Jaji, Laro, and other areas in the Akko local government where six people were killed and 20 others abducted.

The lawmakers expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation, emphasizing the constitutional duty to safeguard lives and property. They urged Tinubu to direct the Chief of Defence Staff to coordinate joint security operations, provide aerial surveillance, and deploy ground support to combat the bandits effectively.

Additionally, the House mandated the Inspector General of Police to deploy a mobile police force squadron to Akko and ensure law and order are maintained to prevent further casualties. The legislators also called for the immediate provision of relief materials to affected communities and mandated weekly reports on security measures until the situation is under control.
