Telecom CEOs summoned by House of Reps over network issues

The House of Representatives has summoned major telecommunications operators in Nigeria, including MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Globacom, and Mafab Communications Ltd., to explain the persistent deterioration in network quality. The ultimatum was issued by the House Ad Hoc Committee on October 22, 2026, following previous non-compliance by some operators.
The CEOs are required to appear before the committee on October 28, 2026, at 2 p.m. in Hearing Room 447 of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja. The committee, chaired by Hon. Olumide Osoba (APC-Ogun), aims to identify the factors causing network failures and address subscriber concerns.
Osoba expressed dissatisfaction with the executives' failure to attend previous invitations, emphasizing their responsibility for service delivery. Hon. Ibe Osonwa criticized the operators for disregarding legislative authority despite their significant revenue from Nigerian operations.
The committee's resolution followed motions by Hon. Sunday Umeha and Hon. Afam Ogene, insisting on accountability for service quality.
