Germany Lists 7 IT Jobs for EU Blue Card Eligibility

The German government has released a list of seven information and communications occupations that are eligible for the EU Blue Card residence permit, as part of the Skilled Immigration Act. This list is intended to assist prospective skilled workers and employers by clarifying which job titles are relevant for the EU Blue Card application process and the points-based opportunity card, known as the Chancenkarte.

The identified roles fall under Group 25 of Germany's occupational classification system, divided into two sub-groups: software and applications developers and analysts, which include systems analysts, software developers, web and multimedia developers, and applications programmers; and database and network professionals, which include database designers and administrators, systems administrators, and computer network professionals. The Skilled Immigration Act aims to mitigate labor shortages in critical sectors, making the IT sector a viable entry point for Nigerians and other African professionals seeking to migrate to Europe.
