NARD Announces Nationwide Strike Starting April 7, 2026

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) declared a nationwide strike set to commence at 12:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. This decision was made in response to the federal government's suspension of payments related to outstanding financial obligations owed to resident doctors.

Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Secretary General of NARD, issued a statement on Saturday, April 4, 2026, describing the suspension of payments as an unfortunate setback in efforts to improve the welfare of resident doctors. NARD is calling for the reversal of the suspension, the payment of salary arrears, and the release of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF).

The association highlighted that the payment arrears have accumulated over a period of 19 months and urged its members to remain united in pursuing these demands.
