Resident Doctors Suspend Strike After Government Agreement

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) announced the suspension of their planned indefinite strike following an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC). This decision was made after reaching an understanding with the federal government, which included commitments to address outstanding salary arrears and improve doctors' welfare.

The communiqué stated that progress was made in negotiations, particularly concerning the prompt payment of salary arrears and the resolution of issues surrounding the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF). Although the association did not declare a resolution of disputes, they acknowledged the federal government's renewed willingness to address their concerns.

The NEC granted the federal government a two-week ultimatum to implement concrete measures to meet their demands. If the government fails to comply within this timeframe, the NEC indicated that they would not hesitate to resume the total indefinite comprehensive strike action without further notice.
