Resident Doctors Protest Assaults at Ondo Hospital

On Monday, resident doctors at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owo in Ondo State staged a protest against the increasing assaults on healthcare workers. The protest, organized by the FMC Owo branch of the Association of Resident Doctors, highlighted that assaults on doctors and health workers have become recurrent, with three to four cases reported in the past year alone.

During the protest, the chairman of FMC Owo, Dr. Oluwadamilola Adeola, led a peaceful walk to raise awareness about the issue.

The doctors chanted solidarity songs and carried placards with messages against violence towards healthcare workers. They demanded the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the assaults and expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of justice.

The protesters called for the deployment of armed security personnel at the hospital to ensure safety and requested a public apology from perpetrators to serve as a deterrent. Dr.

Dotun Odumad, a senior registrar in the Department of Family Medicine, emphasized the need for increased awareness and safety measures within the hospital community.
