Nigerian Resident Doctors to Resume Strike on January 12 Over Unmet Demands

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) in Nigeria has announced plans to resume a strike on January 12, citing the government's failure to address their long-standing welfare demands. The decision was made during an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) on January 2.

The strike is set to commence at 12:00 on Monday, January 12, 2026. NARD has listed nine minimum demands, including reinstatement of five doctors at a federal teaching hospital in Lokoja and full implementation of salary arrears.

The association also demands the reintroduction of specialist allowances and resolution of salary delays for house officers. The strike is part of a phased protest plan by NARD.
