Nigerian Resident Doctors Suspend 29-Day Strike After Agreement with Government

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called off its month-long nationwide strike that began on November 1, 2025, affecting healthcare services across the country. The decision to suspend the strike came after an extraordinary meeting of the association's executive council.

Dr. Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Secretary-General of NARD, confirmed the suspension following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the federal government.

The agreement was based on seven conditions, two of which have been met, including the release of funds for doctor entry-level placements. However, the remaining five conditions, such as reinstating a doctor in Lokoja and addressing payment arrears, must be fulfilled within four weeks to prevent a resumption of the strike.
