Lagos Residents Demand Solutions for Poor Power Supply

Residents and business owners in various Lagos communities, including Igando, Isheri, Idimu, and Ikotun, have voiced their concerns regarding the persistent poor power supply, which has significantly deteriorated living conditions and disrupted daily activities. Business owners, such as Felicia Adeyemi, a shop owner, and Kemi Ayorind, a restaurant operator, report that erratic power supply has increased operational costs and forced them to rely on costly fuel for generators.

Ayorind noted that food items spoil without electricity, impacting her business severely. Community leader Yusuf Ayoola highlighted the heightened security risks due to prolonged darkness, which has made neighborhoods vulnerable to criminal activities.

Kingsley Okoti, a spokesperson for the Ikeja Electric Distribution Company, explained that the power situation is largely due to a general shortfall and load shedding, which has affected their ability to optimize power distribution. Residents and business owners are calling for urgent solutions to address these ongoing power supply issues.
