Residents Demand Action on Edo State's Crumbling Roads

Residents of Benin, the Edo State capital, are calling for urgent action from the state government regarding the deplorable condition of intra-city roads, particularly in the Government Reservation Area (GRA). Many roads, constructed decades ago without proper drainage, have fallen into disrepair.

Key roads such as Mission Road, Oba Market Road, Plymouth Road, and Ibiwe Road are now riddled with potholes, severely hindering vehicular and pedestrian movement. The situation is exacerbated during peak hours, making it difficult for workers and business owners to commute.

Commercial drivers have begun using Kings Square as a motor park due to the poor conditions. Notably, a deep pothole near the Government House has rendered Reservation Road unusable.

Residents, including Mr. Osaro Idemudia and James Igie, have expressed their dissatisfaction, emphasizing that the state of the roads reflects poorly on Edo State, especially ahead of the Oba of Benin’s 10th-year coronation anniversary. Solomon Aibangbee highlighted that the roads have gained international attention due to their poor state.
