Lagos Reintroduces Monthly Sanitation to Tackle Waste Crisis

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the reintroduction of monthly environmental sanitation exercises to tackle the growing waste crisis in Lagos. This initiative will take place on the last Saturday of each month from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM, with no restrictions on movement to encourage widespread participation.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and state cabinet members, led a sanitation exercise in Mushin, symbolizing the urgency to confront the worsening sanitation challenges.

The governor emphasized that while movement restrictions have been removed, compliance will be closely monitored, and sanctions will be imposed on neighborhoods and markets that fail to participate. This revival aims to restore civic responsibility and address the visible decline in environmental discipline, as improper waste disposal has led to clogged drainage systems and increased flooding risks.

The governor's commitment follows a previous suspension of the program due to legal challenges, and he seeks to mobilize citizens to collectively clean their surroundings.
