Lagos to Reward Cleanest Local Government Monthly

The Lagos State Government, through Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, announced a new initiative to reward the cleanest local government area (LGA) each month as part of its environmental sanitation exercise.

This initiative aims to encourage healthy competition among LGAs and was highlighted during a monitoring exercise in the Obalende and Ikoyi areas. The sanitation exercise is scheduled to occur on the last Saturday of every month from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM.

Wahab noted a commendable compliance level of approximately 98% among residents, which he described as "mind-blowing." The initiative is designed to foster a culture of environmental responsibility, with an emphasis on voluntary compliance rather than strict enforcement. Dr.

Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the governor, also participated, urging residents to adopt daily sanitation habits. The government aims to build community ownership of cleanliness efforts while ensuring that commercial vehicles remain off the roads during the exercise.
