Nigeria Celebrates Sarah Ogoke's Basketball Retirement

Nigeria celebrated the retirement of Sarah Ogoke, the former captain of the D’Tigress, who announced her retirement from the national basketball team at the age of 35. The National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Mallam Shehu Dikko, expressed pride in Ogoke's decade-long contributions to the national team.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu also acknowledged her impact, emphasizing her role as an inspiration for women and girls in Nigeria. The retirement ceremony took place in Lyon, France, coinciding with her final game in the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament.

Ogoke, a five-time Afrobasket champion, is recognized not only for her athletic success but also for her accomplishments as a medical doctor, mother, and wife. The NSC's Director General, Bukola Olopade, noted that Ogoke's legacy will continue to inspire future generations of Nigerian athletes.
