Stakeholders Urge Kano to Return RUWASA to Water Ministry

Stakeholders in Kano State have strongly urged the state government to return the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) to the Ministry of Water Resources. This recommendation was made during a four-day workshop held in Kaduna, aimed at reviewing the state's water and sanitation policies.

Engr Abdurrazak Haruna, the Permanent Secretary of the Kano State Ministry of Water Resources, disclosed that the recommendation to return RUWASA has already been captured in the revised policy document. The workshop, organized by Self Help Africa, aimed to ensure that the final documents reflect the realities and needs of communities across the state.

Timothi Ibeawuchi, the team lead for the WASH System Health Program, emphasized the importance of stakeholder contributions to strengthen water and sanitation governance in Kano State. The revised policy document will be submitted to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for approval to ensure prompt implementation across the state.
