Kwankwaso Endorses Abdussalam for Kano Governorship

Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has chosen Aminu Abdussalam as the preferred governorship candidate for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State. This decision follows extensive closed-door consultations within the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Abdussalam, who previously served as the deputy governor of Kano State, resigned in March after an impeachment notice was issued against him. Kwankwaso's decision comes as the NDC prepares for the upcoming elections, with expectations surrounding Peter Obi's candidacy for the presidency in 2027.

Nasiru Gawuna, the former governorship candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC), was reportedly offered a deputy governorship slot but declined, pledging to work for the success of the party instead. Gawuna's rejection of the offer was influenced by pressure from influential figures urging Kwankwaso to reconsider based on Gawuna's electoral strength.

The announcement regarding Abdussalam's candidacy is expected to be made formally soon.
