INEC Discusses 2027 Election Timetable and Voter Registration

On Wednesday, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Amupitan, convened a high-level meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja. The meeting focused on the revised timetable for the 2027 general elections and the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which will run until April 17, 2026, with the entire process concluding on August 30, 2026.

Prof. Amupitan expressed dissatisfaction with the late opening of polling units and warned that staff found negligent would face sanctions. He also highlighted the introduction of a new result management system to enhance transparency and accuracy in the electoral process.

During the meeting, Dr. Chukwu Chukwuemeka Joseph was sworn in as the RECs for Enugu State, and the importance of collaboration with state electoral commissions was emphasized to improve electoral administration.
