New Postcode System to Boost Nigeria's National Security

Nuhu Ribadu, representing the National Central Counter Terrorism (NCCT), stated that the new National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System (NDAP) will significantly enhance national security and public safety in Nigeria. Speaking in Abuja, Ribadu emphasized that the system will deploy infrastructure across the country, allowing for accurate identification of locations, which is crucial for effective decision-making in security operations.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to adapt and embrace innovative tools to address contemporary security challenges. Tijani Bosun, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, noted that the alphanumeric postcode will assign a unique code to every building, including in rural areas, ensuring comprehensive coverage.

The rollout is expected to begin in October, with a goal to cover a significant number of states by the end of the year. Ribadu highlighted the financial implications of misdelivery in Nigeria, estimating costs between N50 billion and N80 billion, and stressed the importance of the postcode system in reducing these costs and improving service delivery.
