Ribadu Affirms FG's Commitment to National Security

On Thursday, at the General Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Giri, Abuja, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to protecting lives and property. This statement came during the public destruction of 2,819 illicitly acquired, decommissioned, and unserviceable small arms and light weapons by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.

This destruction brought the total number of destroyed weapons to 19,000 since the Centre's inception. Ribadu, represented by Dr Dennis Brutu Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, highlighted that the presence of illegal arms could exacerbate issues like terrorism and banditry.

He noted that the government's security strategy, supported by President Bola Tinubu, focuses on intelligence-led operations and international cooperation. Ribadu commended the efforts of Johnson Kokumo, Director-General of the Centre, and other security agencies involved in the recovery and destruction of these weapons, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.
