Anambra Native Doctor Akwa Okuko Sentenced and Shrine Demolished

Chidozi Nwangwu, a 29-year-old native doctor referred to as Akwa Okuko, was sentenced by Anambra State High Court Judge Jude Obiorah after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including aiding kidnapping and illegal practices under the Anambra homeland security law. Nwangwu, who gained notoriety for claiming supernatural powers that could provide wealth and protection, was arrested in February 2025 during a security operation named Agunechemba, launched by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The court ordered the demolition of his shrine and imposed a total fine of N60 million, which was waived due to the time already served in detention. Nwangwu's sentence will run concurrently, allowing him to serve 11 months in prison.

Following the judgment, the Agunechemba security outfit dismantled his shrine and burned items associated with his practices. The case highlights the state's crackdown on illegal native doctor practices, particularly those linked to kidnapping and exploitation.
