Rivers APC Appeals Disqualifications Ahead of Primaries

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) began appeal hearings on Tuesday for 65 aspirants disqualified from participating in the upcoming state assembly elections. The hearings took place at the party's state secretariat in Port Harcourt.

Abdul Mahmud, the chairman of the appeal panel, stated that the committee's mandate is to review complaints raised by aspirants regarding the outcomes of the screening exercise conducted over the weekend. A total of 33 aspirants were cleared to participate in the primaries, while 65 were disqualified.

Mahmud assured stakeholders that the panel would conduct its review transparently and fairly, dismissing claims of factional influence in the disqualifications. Notably, 32 of the disqualified aspirants were believed to be aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The appeal process is expected to conclude on Wednesday, May 13, as the APC intensifies preparations for its primary elections.
