Rivers APC Appeal Panel Receives 19 Petitions Over Screening

The Rivers State APC appeal panel, chaired by Abdul Mahmud, has received 19 petitions from aspirants who are dissatisfied with the outcomes of the assembly screening process. The appeal process commenced on Tuesday and is set to officially close on Wednesday, May 13.

The panel will review and determine the petitions submitted, which have arisen following the release of results showing that 33 aspirants participated in the house assembly primaries, while 65 others faced unclear outcomes. This situation has sparked controversy within the party, particularly as 32 aspirants believed to be loyal to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara were reportedly disqualified.

This development further highlights the deepening political divisions within the Rivers APC ahead of the 2027 elections. The party has advised aggrieved aspirants to utilize the appeal mechanism provided by the APC, with a statement issued urging them to purchase nomination forms for the house assembly elections and confirm their screening status on the notice board at the party's state secretariat in Port Harcourt.
