Rivers Assembly Invites Commissioner-Nominees for Screening

The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed the receipt of a list of nine commissioner-nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara for screening. The nominees, led by Martin Amaewhul, are expected to comply with the submission of their curriculum vitae and evidence of tax compliance.

This invitation follows the governor's recent dismissal of eight commissioners, which did not affect a Supreme Court judgment recognizing Martin Amaewhul as the authentic Speaker of the House. The announcement was made on March 3, signed by the Clerk of the House, Emeka Amadi.

The nominees include Datony Alasia, Tony Bellgam, Templ Nwofor, Peter Nwagor, Chariti Deemua, Tamuno William, Leku Kenneth Otony, Amachre Amairigha, and Edward Hart. The political landscape is further complicated by President Bola Tinubu's intervention in a political face-off, which included the withdrawal of impeachment notices against the governor's deputy by 27 lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike.
