Rivers Assembly Disqualifies Fubara Loyalists Ahead of 2027

The screening committee of the Rivers State Assembly, chaired by Muraina Ajibola, disqualified several aspirants loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, citing reasons such as invalid affidavits and conflicts in dates of birth. A total of 98 aspirants had obtained nomination forms, but many failed to meet the party's eligibility criteria.

Notable disqualified aspirants include Chijiok Ihunwo, a former chairman of the Obio Akpor local government. The outcome of the screening has heightened political tensions in Rivers State as the 2027 general elections approach.

Nyesom Wike, a former governor and current member of the Rivers Assembly, was mentioned in relation to the successful navigation of the screening process by his loyalists, which has led to accusations of political maneuvering against Fubara's faction. The situation has caused confusion within the party, with conflicting reports from party officials regarding the screening results.
