Rivers Assembly Screens Commissioner Nominees from Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly conducted a screening for nine commissioner nominees presented by Governor Siminalayi Fubara on March 5, 2026. The nominees, including Tony Alasia, Tony Bellgam, Templ Nwofor, Peter Nwagor, Chariti Deemua, Tamuno William Leku, Kenneth Otony, Tkd Amachre, and Amairigha Hart, introduced themselves and answered questions from lawmakers during the session broadcasted on Aris TV.

The submission of the nominees followed the dissolution of the state executive council, as indicated in a notice signed by the clerk, Dr. Emeka Amadi, on March 3, 2026.

This political development comes after a six-month state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu on September 17, 2025, which was imposed on March 18, 2025, amid a prolonged political crisis stemming from disagreements between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who had significant control over the state's political structure.
