Rivers State to Transition Back to Democracy as Emergency Rule Set to End

Rivers State is set to transition back to full democracy as the emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu is expected to end on September 18, 2025. The state had been under emergency rule since March 18 for a six-month period.

Despite initial denials and speculations, an announcement on Friday indicated the return to democratic governance, with selected stakeholders invited to a Church Thanksgiving Service as part of the transition activities. The Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Rtd Ekwe, is overseeing the transition process.

The move marks a significant shift towards restoring democratic processes in Rivers State after the period of emergency rule.
