CAN Condemns Elder Statesmen for Fanning Political Division in Rivers State

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Rivers State, represented by its chairman Dr. Dokiboeriya Kaladokubo, condemned elder statesmen for fueling political divisions in the oil-rich state.

Kaladokubo emphasized the need for elder statesmen to play a unifying role and offer solutions to the ongoing political crisis instead of deepening divisions. The statement highlighted the dangers of the state's drift towards chaos and instability, affecting governance, peace, security, and the well-being of the people.

The association called for a cessation of hostilities and urged political actors to prioritize peace and progress over personal ambitions. The CAN declared a day of fasting and prayer for peace and good governance in Rivers State.

The criticism was directed at elder statesmen who were seen as exacerbating the political crisis rather than guiding the state towards stability. The statement also mentioned the existence of two major elder blocs in the state, led by former governor Chief Rufu Ada Georg and sympathizer Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
