Rivers Governor Fubara to Submit New Commissioner List Amid Political Crisis

Rivers State Governor Fubara is preparing to present a fresh list of commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly in a bid to address the political crisis in the state. The decision follows efforts to end the political deadlock in Rivers State, with President Bola Tinubu playing a key role in brokering a peace agreement.

Governor Fubara, who had a strained relationship with his political mentor Nyesom Wike, is working towards implementing the original peace accord brokered in late 2023. During a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu reportedly outlined three options for Governor Fubara to ensure his political survival and avoid impeachment, including the full implementation of the peace agreement.

Additionally, part of the new understanding requires Fubara to reinstate commissioners loyal to Wike and submit a new list agreeable to all parties for confirmation by the State House of Assembly. Despite Governor Fubara's visit to Wike's residence in Abuja to privately apologize, tensions remain high, with President Tinubu cautioning against impeachment.
