Rivers LG Polls: Group urges residents to participate

The Rivers State group PDP Vanguard has urged residents to participate in the controversial local government election scheduled for August 30. In a statement issued on Friday, the group called on citizens to cast their votes and support candidates to restore democratic governance across the 23 local government councils in the state.

The group acknowledged the setbacks caused by the political crisis in Rivers State, which has affected economic and social activities. They also appealed to political stakeholders to prioritize the collective interest of the state over personal ambitions.

The group called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to intervene and ensure that all members are included in the election process. The election, originally slated for August 9, has faced widespread criticism due to the appointment of a Sole Administrator with no constitutional authority to conduct the poll.
