Rivers Man Arrested for Alleged Defilement of Teen Girl

Goodnews was arrested by the Rivers State Police Command's Special Area in Rumudomaya for allegedly defiling his neighbor's 16-year-old daughter. The incident took place on May 4, 2026, along Apu Road in Rukpokwu, Obio Akpor Local Government Area.

According to Chidi Obulor, a family friend of the victim's parents, the suspect tricked the girl while sending her on an errand. Following a formal complaint from the girl's parents, police officers conducted an investigation and arrested Goodnews.

The victim was rushed to the hospital for medical examination and treatment. Bless Agab, an Assistant Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations are ongoing.

The Central Basic Rights Protection Account Campaign criticized attempts to settle the matter outside of court, emphasizing that the crime is against the state and not just the victim. They called for a thorough investigation and for the suspect to face justice.
