Rivers State Assembly Members Withdraw from Impeachment Plot Against Governor Wike Amid Political Crisis

In Rivers State, two members of the House of Assembly, Sylvanus Nwankwo and Peter Abbe, have backed out of an impeachment plot against Governor Nyesom Wike and his deputy, Ngozi Odu. This move indicates a potential weakening of Wike's political control.

The peace efforts were initiated under the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) led by Kanu Agabi, aiming to resolve the political crisis in the state. The Nigerian Army also expressed concerns over misrepresentations of remarks made by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, during a recent visit to the 6 Division Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt.

The legislators have been urged to exercise restraint and seek amicable resolutions to the ongoing impeachment proceedings. The peace and reconciliation committee, chaired by Agabi, has been tasked with brokering peace within two weeks to prevent further political tensions in Rivers State.
