Rockefeller Foundation Launches Clean Cooking Initiative in Africa

On a recent date, the Rockefeller Foundation, alongside the Global Energy Alliance, Clean Cooking Alliance, and Energy Corp, launched the Clean Cooking Accelerator Initiative aimed at expanding access to modern cooking technologies across Africa. This initiative was announced during a high-level dialogue at the International Energy Agency (IEA) in 2026, chaired by IEA Executive Director Dr.

Fatih Birol and attended by Kenya's Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Jame Opiyo Wandayi, U.S. Secretary of Energy Christoph Wright, and Norway's Minister of Energy Terje Lien Aasland.

The initiative reflects a renewed commitment to universal access to clean cooking solutions, which is crucial for improving health, saving lives, empowering women and children, creating local jobs, and reducing forest degradation. Approximately 1 billion people in Africa rely on traditional fuels, contributing to 810,000 premature deaths annually due to household air pollution.

The initiative seeks to address the clean cooking gap, which requires an estimated $2 billion per year to achieve significant progress.
