Michael Olise Declines Nigeria for French National Team

Michael Olise, a young midfielder, chose not to represent Nigeria in international football, as revealed by Gernot Rohr, the former coach of the Nigerian national team. Olise, who has a British-Nigerian father and a French-Algerian background, expressed a desire to play for top European clubs, which influenced his decision.

He has been a prominent figure in European football, particularly after his youth career with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City, and his subsequent success at Crystal Palace. Olise made his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur and was awarded the English Football League Young Player of the Season in 2021.

He has since secured a Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich and is part of the French squad, having made his senior debut in 2024. Previously, he was on Nigeria's standby list for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, but ultimately committed to France, contributing to his club's success in various competitions, including the UEFA Champions League.
