Rotimi Amaechi Accepts Atiku's Running Mate Nomination for 2027

Former transport minister Rotimi Amaechi has agreed to serve as Atiku Abubakar's vice presidential candidate under the African Democratic Congress.
Rotimi Amaechi, who served as transport minister during the Buhari administration, has agreed to serve as running mate alongside Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election under the African Democratic Congress. This agreement emerged following a reconciliation session between the two political leaders, based on statements made by party officials.
The ADC's presidential ticket was secured by Atiku through a direct primary process where party members participated by casting over 2.5 million votes. Among the contestants he faced was Amaechi, whom he defeated decisively with 1.855 million votes.
Only after this primary concluded did the nomination of Amaechi for the vice presidential slot take place. According to party sources, Atiku chose Amaechi due to his substantial influence and well-established connections spanning multiple regions of the country.
Having previously governed Rivers State and served in ministerial positions, Amaechi possesses networks that party officials contend would enhance the ticket's strength, most notably in South-South and South-East areas. Party analysts noted that a South-East candidate selection strategy had previously failed to deliver results, particularly considering Peter Obi's candidacy under a rival party.
Announcement of the complete ticket has been postponed because Atiku is currently abroad on a brief trip. Officials have suggested that more information about the nomination procedure will surface in the near term.
The official public presentation of the entire ticket lacks a confirmed date at this time.
