Niger Assembly Suspends Sitting Amid Rowdy Session

On Tuesday, the Niger State House of Assembly abruptly suspended its plenary session following a rowdy session caused by unresolved issues between the legislative and executive branches of government. The disruption began shortly after the session commenced when Moham Abubakar Kabir Ustaz, representing Chanchaga Constituency, moved a motion urging the House to step down proceedings until outstanding matters were addressed.

Historically, the Assembly has faced criticism for allowing unresolved issues to be overlooked. However, members disagreed on the matter, leading to heated debates.

Jibrin Ndagi Baba, representing Lavun Constituency, opposed the motion, insisting that legislative business should continue as the House had already reconvened. This disagreement sparked a rowdy session, forcing the House to suspend proceedings.

Speaker Abdulmalik Sarkindaji intervened, appealing for calm and urging members to respect differing opinions.
