Oseni Demands Accountability for $2.9bn Refinery Spending

Rufai Oseni, an ARISE Television presenter, has demanded that President Bola Tinubu provide a detailed account of the approximately $2.9 billion spent on the rehabilitation of Nigeria's state-owned refineries. During The Morning Show, Oseni raised concerns over conflicting statements regarding the operational status of the Port Harcourt Refinery.

This follows Tinubu's assurance that the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries would resume operations after structural and operational reforms. Tinubu made this pledge while meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Oseni pointed out that Tinubu had previously congratulated the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited in November 2024 for the successful revitalization of the Port Harcourt Refinery, questioning why the President is now promising its operational return. He emphasized the need for transparency regarding the funds spent, particularly after the Federal Executive Council approved $1.5 billion for the Port Harcourt Refinery rehabilitation in March 2021.
