Nigeria's Ambassador Meets Russian Deputy Foreign Minister

On Thursday, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Borisenko Evgenievich, received Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Joseph Iji, in Moscow. The meeting was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday from Abuja by Daria Senyushina, the communications officer at the Russian Embassy in Nigeria.

During the meeting, Ambassador Iji presented copies of his credentials and engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening the long-standing friendly relations between Nigeria and Russia. The discussions emphasized the need to expand political dialogue and deepen bilateral cooperation, covering key areas such as trade, economic development, science, technology, humanitarian affairs, and strategic sectors.

The diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the former Soviet Union have existed for six decades, with Russia maintaining an embassy in Abuja and a consulate in Lagos, reflecting a growing dynamic partnership in various sectors, including trade, education, energy, and military relations.
