Rute Cardoso, the widow of late footballer Diogo Jota, revealed the last text she sent to him before he and his brother died in a car accident on July 3, 2025. The accident occurred when their Lamborghini Huracán suffered a tyre blowout and caught fire.

Cardoso's account is featured in a biography titled "Forever in Our Hearts," which compiles tributes and details of Jota's career, with proceeds funding a grassroots football program established in his name. In the biography, Cardoso recounted how Jota and his brother visited her family before their journey.

She sent him a message wishing him a safe trip, to which he replied with an emoji. She then advised him to keep his eyes on the road.

Cardoso later sent a second message containing a video surprise for Jota, which he never opened. This unread message has become a painful reminder of their last moments together before the tragic accident.
