Senate to Sanction MDAs for Ignoring Committee Invitations

On Thursday, the Senate adopted a resolution to sanction heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) that do not comply with invitations from its standing committees. This decision followed a motion by Senator Sani Musa, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, who accused several revenue-generating agencies of hindering legislative oversight by neglecting to appear before the committee or provide necessary financial records.

The Senate directed all MDAs and government-owned enterprises (GOEs) to honor invitations and submit required documents for legislative oversight. The Clerk of the National Assembly was tasked with communicating this resolution to all affected agencies for immediate compliance.

Senator Musa emphasized the National Assembly's constitutional authority to investigate financial operations and ensure accountability in public fund management. He expressed concern over the persistent non-compliance of several agencies despite clear constitutional obligations to respond to Senate invitations.
