Reps Summon Accountant-General Over Non-Compliance Issues

The House of Representatives' Public Accounts Committee summoned Accountant-General Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi and six Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) due to their failure to honor invitations and provide critical documents necessary for the committee's oversight responsibilities. The committee, chaired by Hon.

Bamidel Salam, expressed displeasure over the Accountant-General's consistent absence despite several letters sent over the past few months. The committee emphasized the importance of the Accountant-General's role in managing Nigeria's public finances and warned that such conduct sets a poor example for government agencies.

The committee reiterated its expectation for the Accountant-General to maintain a cordial working relationship with the National Assembly, particularly in overseeing public financial management. The final invitation for the Accountant-General to appear before the panel is set for Monday, July 13, 2026.

The committee chairman reaffirmed the panel's determination to enforce strict compliance with legislative oversight, insisting that no public official is above accountability to the Nigerian people.
