The Nasarawa State Government has closed the Lafia Modern Market in the state capital, citing poor sanitation practices leading to environmental pollution. Dr. Margaret Elayo, the Commissioner for Environment, ordered the shutdown after repeated warnings to the market management.

The market had become a dumpsite, causing air pollution and defacing the state capital. Market traders and business owners were left stranded outside, blaming the market management for failing to address waste management issues despite collecting fees.

The government aims to resolve the situation and ensure a clean environment.
