Kano Sees Three Separate Eid Prayers Amid Political Rift

On Eid al-Fitr, Kano witnessed an unprecedented occurrence with three separate prayers led by prominent figures: the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, held his prayer at Kofar Mata Eid ground at 8:00 AM, attended by Governor Abba Yusuf, whose sermon focused on unity and peace. The 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, conducted a separate prayer at Nasarawa Palace, led by Sheikh Kamaluddeen Albasa, emphasizing peace and stability.

Meanwhile, Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, held his own prayer at a residential mosque on Miller Road, attended by his loyalists. This division reflects ongoing tensions in Kano, rooted in the emirate crisis that led to Sanusi II's dethronement in 2020 and the subsequent installation of Bayero.

The situation is further complicated by Governor Yusuf's defection from the NNPP to the APC, creating a parallel traditional authority and deepening political divides in the state.
