Sanusi II Meets Kano Governor's Delegation Amid Dispute

On Tuesday night, Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th emir of Kano, held a closed-door meeting with a delegation from Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. This meeting occurred at the historic Gidan Rumfa following an iftar gathering, which has intensified speculation about the state government's stance on the ongoing emirship dispute in Kano.

The governor's spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, confirmed the meeting on Facebook, noting that the delegation included Umar Ibrahim, the Secretary to the State Government, and Sulaiman Wali, the Chief of Staff to the Governor. The meeting comes amid uncertainty regarding the fate of the traditional Durbar festival, a centuries-old cultural event in Kano, due to unresolved legal battles surrounding the emirship between Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero.

Although Governor Yusuf reinstated Sanusi II as emir in 2024, Bayero continues to challenge this decision in court. The iftar gathering and subsequent private meeting suggest a potential strengthening of ties between the state administration and Sanusi II as they approach the Sallah celebrations.
