Sanwo-Olu Approves ₦50,000 Wage Award for Lagos Workers

On Friday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a ₦50,000 wage award for public sector workers in the state, aimed at alleviating the financial pressures caused by rising living costs. This decision was revealed during the International Workers' Day celebration held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, where the governor was represented by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.

The wage award will be effective from May and is part of the government's efforts to support workers facing economic challenges, including increased fuel prices and inflation. Governor Sanwo-Olu praised Lagos workers for their vital role in sustaining the state's development, describing them as the backbone of growth across various sectors such as education, healthcare, and public service.

He acknowledged the challenges in housing and transportation and mentioned the government's commitment to expanding affordable housing schemes and investing in transport infrastructure, including rail systems. Additionally, he reaffirmed the administration's dedication to regular engagement with labor unions and ensuring timely pension payments for retirees.
