Gawat Defends LAWMA's Waste Management After Sanitation Exercise

Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on New Media, addressed claims regarding the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) failing to clear waste after a recent sanitation exercise. He described these allegations as false, asserting that waste collection efforts were carried out across various local government areas.

Gawat noted that LAWMA's role is decentralized, with local governments also participating in waste management by utilizing their own compactor trucks. He emphasized that the sanitation exercise is part of a monthly initiative aimed at improving environmental conditions and that efforts will continue.

Gawat responded to criticism from a user, Lola Okunrin, who questioned the effectiveness of the exercise, particularly regarding waste evacuation. He reiterated the importance of community involvement in maintaining a clean environment, especially during the rainy season, and warned against improper waste disposal that could exacerbate flooding issues.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had previously commended residents for their participation in the exercise.
