Oyo State Imposes Curfew After School Abduction Incident

The Oyo State Government has announced a curfew affecting ten local government areas, including Oriir, Orelop, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba. The curfew will be in effect daily from 4:00 PM to 8:00 AM, starting Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and will last for an initial period of 48 hours.

This measure is part of efforts to tackle kidnapping and criminal activities in the area surrounding the Old Oyo National Park. The announcement was made by Dotun Oyelad, the Commissioner for Information.

The decision follows a recent incident on May 26, 2026, when gunmen attacked a school in the Yawota Ahoro Esin community, abducting several pupils and teachers, and resulting in the death of at least one teacher. The state government has urged residents to comply with the curfew and has directed security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property while conducting search and rescue operations in the area.
