Borno Government Warns of Insecurity Threatening Education

The Borno State government has issued a warning that increasing insecurity and the resurgence of school abductions could reverse the educational gains made in the region. This statement was made during an educational summit themed "Strengthening Safe and Inclusive Gender-Responsive Education to Build Back Borno Better." Grema Terab, the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Education Trust Fund, participated in the summit, which reviewed challenges faced by the education sector and assessed progress in rebuilding the system.

Terab emphasized the need to strengthen security in schools and recommended deploying members of the Civilian Joint Task Force to enhance safety. Parents were urged to continue sending their children to school to support government efforts in improving school safety.

Abba Wakilb, the state’s Commissioner for Education, noted significant investments in the education sector, including teacher recruitment and infrastructure improvements. However, Benjamin John, Executive Director of Unique Care Support Foundation, warned that ongoing attacks on schools could deter parents from enrolling their children due to safety fears.
