Amnesty International Condemns Borno School Attack

Amnesty International issued a statement on Tuesday condemning the attack on a secondary school in Lassa, Askira Uba Local Government Area, Borno State. The attack resulted in the deaths of two teachers and a student, while an unspecified number of students were abducted.

The organization described the incident as a serious violation of children's right to education and insisted that schools must remain safe spaces for learning. Amnesty International warned that abducted students face grave risks and noted that persistent attacks on schools have left educational institutions across northern Nigeria in a state of fear and insecurity.

The organization documented at least 13 school abductions in 2023 and attributed this alarming trend to the failure of authorities to provide adequate protection for schools and children. The statement emphasized that it is the Nigerian government's duty to ensure that the country's educational sector is not further threatened by armed groups.
