Borno State Urges Parents to Prioritize Education Amid Insecurity

Borno State officials, during an educational summit held on a Saturday, urged parents not to let insecurity prevent their children from accessing education. The summit, themed "Strengthen Safe Inclusive Gender Responsive Education to Build Back Borno Better," featured Grema Terab, the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Education Trust Fund.

He emphasized the importance of early warning systems for potential abductions to ensure student safety. Abba Wakilb, the Commissioner for Education, reported significant progress in human infrastructure development, including teacher recruitment and curriculum enhancement.

However, he expressed concern over a recent increase in abductions, which poses a threat to educational development in the state. Benjamin John, Executive Director of Unique Care Support Foundation, noted that the resurgence of abductions since 2014 has become a major concern, particularly in Borno State, where many children remain out of school.

The summit concluded with a call for continued support from residents and partners to protect schools and promote educational development.
